FAQ

MUN

Q. I still do not understand what MUN is. Can you put it in simpler words?
A. Certainly. It is a political simulation, in which you participate as an ambassador of a country and work with others to find solutions to global issues and problems.

Q. Can only students studying politics participate?
A. Absolutely not. The conference is open to students of all faculties, no matter if it is architecture, medicine or law. You only require a specific interest in international politics.

Q. Must I have participated in an MUN before to register?
A. No. We are more than happy to accommodate all “first-timers” applying and assisting them in getting accustomed to the MUN format.

Q. The rules of procedure seem very complicated. How can I learn them?
A. It is needless to say that the rules of diplomatic debate can be difficult to grasp right away. However, once you can apply them in the committee they become very easy. Additionally we are offering training sessions before the conference begins to help you learn the rules.

Q. Can I choose which country I represent?
A. Yes, when registering you choose a list of three countries in order of preference, which you would like to represent in the committee and we will work tirelessly to accommodate your wishes. However we cannot guarantee that you get your first pick country, everyone wants to be the U.S. in the security council. :)

The Conference

Q. Is participating in an MUN expensive, especially if I am travelling to Passau from far away?
A. No, there are numerous ways to cut costs. There are countless organisations and foundations, which support students to participate in these sorts of conferences. Even companies are happy to endow groups of students. All it requires is proper fundraising beforehand (click here). Also the conference fee of € 50 is relatively cheap compared to other conferences.
